This was my interpretation of a traditional subject matter commonly seen in antique netsuke. I carved this from stag antler, a satisfying material to work with, not without its challenges. One photo is seen with carved eyes which were later intended to be inlaid, the other photo without but showing the netsuke from all angles. This piece was unfinished. It required further refining and staining and required an eventual signature. Unfortunately this piece was lost in Kanazawa, Japan and may, for all i know, still be riding a bus or be stuck down the back of a taxi seat.
